Military members and first responders get into Elitch Gardens free and more Denver-area deals starting Sept. 22

Heroes welcome

On Sept. 22, Elitch Gardens is thanking members of the Armed Services (active and veterans) and First Responders (police, fire and EMT) with complimentary park admission for the day. Qualifying thrill seekers can get their free ticket at the Main Gate ticket windows by showing an issued badge. Of course, no one goes to an amusement park on their own. Family and friends accompanied by a hero can purchase a discounted ticket for $27.99. If you go, don’t miss a special performance by the 101st Army Dixieland Band from noon to 2 p.m. at the Big Wheel Stage. The park is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. elitchgardens.com/heroesday

Harvest time

Not everything on the fall menu has to be pumpkin spice flavor. To this end, Wendy’s is introducing the chain’s first-ever fall salad. As part of its leafy lineup, the Harvest Chicken Salad will make its debut on the first day of fall. Even better, customers can get a free half-size of the new salad with any purchase – from Sept. 22 to Oct. 7. Get the one-time use coupon via Wendy’s app under “Offers.” The half-size salad regularly sells for $4.79. wendys.com

Fiery fun

Dream of being a firefighter for a day? Now’s your chance, thanks to West Metro Fire Protection District’s annual Family Fire Muster on Sept. 22. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the District’s Training Center (3535 S. Kipling St.) in Lakewood hosts the free event with live fire prevention demonstrations. Kids will enjoy the Junior Firefighter Challenge, Teddy Bear Clinic, bike rodeo, inflatable slides and more. Families can tour Fire Station #10 to see how firefighters prepare for an emergency. Firehouse Subs (who else?) will be on site selling sandwiches and snacks. Park at D’Evelyn High School for a shuttle to and from the event. westmetrofire.org

Chick flicks

Films can be one of the best ways to experience and understand the journey of others. Harkins Theatres invites filmgoers to its Women’s Equality Film Series at Northfield 18 (8300 Northfield Blvd.) in Denver from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4 with 15 films, “featuring the powerful stories of women who have changed the course of history, been pioneers in their industry and fought for what they believed.” Tickets to individual films are $5. However, for the best deal, buy an all access pass for $30, which includes a ticket to every film, a Harkins 2018 Loyalty Cup and medium popcorn. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. harkins.com/womens-equality.

AFC West wings

Broncos fans now have one more offer to add to their roster of savings, this season. When our favorite team scores at least one field goal during a regular season game, Buffalo Wild Wings serves up a favorite dish of the football season. For three days following the qualifying game day, fans can get a free order of snack (eight boneless or five regular) wings for dine-in only. Limit of one order per person. You must “present offer at point of order.” denverbroncos.com/bww.
