2016: 67 minutes
2017: 4 hrs and 15 minutes
2018: days.
The Great American Beer Festival ticket rush has become a rite of passage for many local beer fans (tens of thousands, if we’re talking numbers) since popularity picked up in 2014. After record-setting sales in 2016, the more than four hours it took to sell out in 2017 seemed like an eternity.
This year, after 30 hours, Friday and Saturday had sold out but tickets were still available for the Thursday session. Brewers Association marketing director Ann Obenchain says it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, since a sixth hall — 100,000 square feet — allowed an extra 2,000 tickets to be sold this year.
Kinda surprised #GABF tickets aren’t already sold out.

“Our priority is to make sure people get the tickets they want rather than setting a time record,” she said Wednesday afternoon.
The extra space includes an expansion of the popular Meet The Brewer experience that will now host 165 breweries. There will also be a barrel-aged beer garden with 17 breweries and a sports bar so that beer drinkers don’t need to have game FOMO.
“But really it also means people can just spread out and get more seating,” Obenchain added.
“We’re not overly concerned. I mean, it’s still 62,000 attendees,” she said of the slower ticket sales. ”We’re just really excited to welcome everybody back this fall. It’s going to be a great experience with a lot of fun new things to do and the variety of beer that they’re going to taste and experience and discover.”
Great American Beer Festival is Sept. 20-22 at the Colorado Convention Center. Tickets for Thursday and designated driver tickets are available at greatamericanbeerfestival.com.
