Friendly rivals on opposite sides of Loveland Pass, Arapahoe Basin and Loveland have been dueling in recent years for bragging rights by becoming the first Front Range ski area to open for the season.
Arapahoe Basin has been dominating the duel in recent years. The last time Loveland won was 2010, and they opened on the same day in 2015.

Prior to the installation of snowmaking at Arapahoe Basin in 2002, the battle typically was between Loveland and Keystone. Wolf Creek beat them all in 2011 (Oct. 8) and again this year (Oct. 13).
Arapahoe Basin’s earliest opening date was Oct. 9, 2009. Loveland’s earliest opening date was Sept. 30, 1951.
