You just can’t trust someone who doesn’t like ice cream (or dogs, but that’s a different story).
And starting Oct. 27, there will be one more spot along the Front Range to indulge. Little Man Ice Cream will open its newest location, Old Town Churn on North College Avenue in Fort Collins, in a cherry-on-top kind of way: with a day full of parties.
Old Town Churn is located in The Exchange, a newly developed food and market hall that currently houses The Pizza Press, CopperMuse Distillery, Bloom florist and Chick’nCone, among others, with more businesses on the way.
But you won’t be able to miss the Old Town Churn: Just look for the 2,000-pound steel churn — complete with crank and giant handle — smack in the center of the outdoor plaza.
The ribbon-cutting and first scoop are scheduled for noon on Oct. 27, followed by Trick or Treat Street, a pumpkin carving and costume contest (with prizes given at 3:30 p.m.), music by bluegrass band Bonnie and Taylor Sims of Bonnie and the Clydes, as well as free Li’l Dips from noon to 4 p.m.
Kids will be able to hit up all the participating tenants within The Exchange for Halloween treats as well, according to Basha Cohen, director of marketing for Little Man Ice Cream.
The celebration culminates with a Silent Disco Costume Ball from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Exchange. (Don’t know what a silent disco is? Here’s what happens: A Denver company, Sound Down, sends a DJ who distributes headphones to participants, who will be dancing to their own music, so to speak, on one of three channels. “It’s hilarious to watch everybody singing, and suddenly the music switches,” Cohen said.)
Owner Paul Tamburello launched the first Little Man Ice Cream in the Highland neighborhood in 2008. A second location, Sweet Cooie’s, opened in Congress Park in February 2017. And two more Little Man stores are coming: The Factory will open in Sloan’s Lake in December, Cohen said, followed by Constellation in Stapleton in early 2019. Little Man Ice Cream is also being served at the Milkbox Ice Creamery at Union Station.
Paying homage to its new location near Colorado State University, the wizards at Little Man have come up with two new flavors: FoCo Choco, a rich chocolate, and All-Nighter, an espresso fudge. They’re also looking to integrate local ingredients in future concoctions, Cohen said.
Oooh, here’s an idea: Take your dog to Little Man. I’ll bet he likes ice cream, too.
