Lawn games and beer at sunset, marshmallows roasting over an open fire.
No, you’re not at a suburban campground. This is RiNo. And it’s Astroturf (but that’s close enough).
Improper City in RiNo is holding a grand opening bash for its new 12,000-square-foot patio this weekend, with a free pig roast, free beer, live music and more.
The outdoor space more than doubles the customer area of Improper City, which has a specialty coffee shop on one side of its 8,000-square-foot interior and a 46-tap bar serving craft beer, wines and draft cocktails on the other.
“We’re basically creating a park in RiNo,” said general manager Ken Macias. “The patio is a place where people can hang out outside, bring their kids and dogs. There is bocce ball, cornhole and a place for people to run around and play. They can roast marshmallows over one of our four fire pits and hang out around the campfire.
“I don’t know any other place in RiNo where people can do that.”
And this weekend should be perfect patio weather, with temperatures forecast in the 60s.
A pre-party on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. will feature music from the Dollhouse Thieves.
Then, on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m., the official patio dedication will commence, with kegs donated by Epic Brewing, 4 Noses, Avery Brewing and Stone Brewing, as well as live music through the night from LVDY, Extra Gold and DJ Cyn. Saturday’s food trucks are Gypsy Q BBQ, Areyto Puerto Rican and Fiesta Fusion, and vendors on-site will include Improper City neighbor Movement Climbing + Fitness, Rye Society and Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha. RSVP’s for the Saturday party are requested. There will be a DJ inside from 9 to midnight.
On Sunday, start your day with Mimosa and Mala at 10 a.m.; free yoga at 11 (RSVP required), a food truck brunch with entertainment by Wheels on Fire at noon, and a Halloween Yappy Hour starting at 1 (bring your costumed pets for special treats). Tyler Farr Jazz Trio and Ben Hammond will provide the entertainment.
Improper City — which bills itself as a beer garden, food truck park and events space — promises to have four to six food trucks available in two shifts on peak days, and two trucks all other days. They have room to hook up six trucks, Macias said.
Or you could just stick with marshmallows.
