The race to open is over.
Wolf Creek Ski Area in Pagosa Springs ran its lifts this weekend after a storm dumped 30 inches of snow. The Oct. 13 opening was the mountain’s second earliest, according to the ski area.
Three lifts — Treasure, Bonanza and Nova — are open. The resort will stay open on weekends until a bigger opening projected for Nov. 2. Depending on the conditions, more lifts may open before then. The rental shop, ski school and main lodge are also open on the weekends.
Wolf Creek, which has 1,600 skiable acres, is on the Wolf Creek Pass. Although the area typically gets 430 inches annually, last year it only saw 230 inches. Lifts operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A ticket for all three lifts will be at the local appreciate rate of $50/adults, $33/seniors and $27/children.
