Burger bargains abound and more Denver-area deals starting Oct. 5

Say cheese!

Mooyah Burgers has claimed its signature double cheeseburger is “the best” for more than a decade. Now, they’re giving customers a chance to see for themselves on its Free Burger Day. On Oct. 10, get a free double cheeseburger with the purchase of fries, a shake or a drink. The burger regularly sells for $6.99, so the savings are quite juicy. (For bargain hunters, the price of a regular soft drink is $2.29, small fries are $2.69 and a small shake is $3.99.) Participating restaurants are each prepared to serve a minimum of 500 customers. The last order will be taken at 8 p.m. (or until they run out of ingredients.) Because of the expected high demand, no substitutions or modifications allowed. Colorado has only one location at 14648 Delaware St.in Westminster. Doors open at 11 a.m. mooyah.com/freeburgerday

Bargain burger

Can you put birthday candles on a hamburger? Hamburger Stand is celebrating 36 years of serving value burgers and fries on Oct. 7, from noon to 5 p.m., with a regular hamburger for only 36 cents. With a limit of five per person, a frugal family could easily feast for under $5. Take the bargain burgers home and enjoy with sides and drinks already in your kitchen for true savings. All six Colorado locations are participating — Aurora, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood, Thornton and Westminster. hamburgerstand.com

Santa’s helper

For bargain hunters, it’s never too early to plan for the holidays. From Oct. 12 to 21, Hallmark Gold Crown is holding its annual Preseason Savings Event. During the sale, holiday greeting cards, boxed cards, stationery, gift wrap, calendars, tree trimmers and Toe of a Kind socks are all buy-one-get-one free. (Its popular itty bitty stuffed characters are buy-two-get-one free.) Savings range from $1.25 to $24.99. No mixing between products and the free item must be of equal or lesser value. The sale is also available online, but orders under $50 will incur shipping charges. However, you can ship to store for pick-up at no additional charge. hallmark.com/preseason

October spirits

The spirits are loose at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar this October. The restaurant is serving a Dollar Zombie for just $1. The electric-blue-colored beverage is made with rum and pineapple, passion fruit, cherry and lime flavors, topped with a gummy brain. The discounted rum cocktail is available every day in October. Famished frugal diners can pair the bargain beverage with the chain’s popular 2 for $22 meal deal for maximum savings. It’s the perfect opportunity for a fall date night that won’t frighten your budget. Combine the deals for an appetizer, two entrées and drinks for around $25. applebees.com

Pumpkin fly

Punkin Chunkin returns to Arapahoe Park Racetrack (26000 E. Quincy Ave.) in Aurora on Oct. 6 and 7. Whether you consider it a sport or mechanical challenge, it’s a hoot to watch large slingshots, catapults, centrifuges, trebuchets and pneumatic air cannons hurl pumpkins through the air. Hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each day also includes a pumpkin patch with carving station, pony rides, scarecrow making, fall market, car show, food vendors, beer garden, live music and children’s activities. Admission is $5 each day. However, for savings, there’s also a family four-pack of tickets for $15. Children 4 and under are free. Some activities cost extra. auroragov.org.
